History of MindMatters

The 1996 audit of mental health education in Australian secondary schools recommended schools as appropriate settings for the promotion of mental health among young people.

The Australian Government established a National Mental Health in Schools Project to be managed by a consortium from Melbourne, Sydney and Deakin Universities and the Australian Council of Health, Physical Education and Recreation.

Pilot project

MindMatters is the result of a successful national pilot involving 24 schools in the government, Catholic and Independent sectors from 1997 to 1998.

Implementation

To read about the implementation of MindMatters, refer to the paperKey influences on the design and implementation of the dissemination of MindMatters by Jo Mason, presented the Australian Association for Research in Education Conference in November 2006.
