MindMatters is designed to support Australian secondary schools in promoting and protecting the mental health and wellbeing of all members of school communities. MindMatters uses a whole school approach to mental health promotion and wellbeing, based on the United Nations and World Health Organization's Health Promoting Schools Framework.

MindMatters considers a range of mental health and wellbeing determinants, including cultural context. It helps teachers, parents and students take positive action to create a climate of mental (as well as physical) health within junior and senior secondary schools. The resource includes:

MindMatters achievements

  • Staff from 82% of all schools with secondary student enrolments in Australia have undertaken professional development.
  • Over 120,000 Australian and international participants have attended professional development sessions.
  • 71% of Australian secondary schools have used MindMatters.
  • 52% of the Australian secondary schools surveyed continue to use MindMatters as a resource.
  • 18% of Australian secondary schools use MindMatters as their key organiser for mental health promotion.
