Ideas on How to Use Staff Matters
- Staff Matters provides a range of topics that inform mental health and wellbeing for school staff, including a series of activities that explore the topics for individuals and school staff groups. It provides summaries of articles and opinion pieces (see Useful Information) about mental health and links to mental health websites.
- Reflective journals can have a beneficial effect on mental health and wellbeing and on professional learning. Think about beginning an individual mental health and wellbeing reflective journal or a professional reading log using some of the journal templates associated with each domain.
- Positive relationships with colleagues appear to be important to encouraging feelings of connectedness to work and help-seeking among staff. These act as protective factors in the prevention of mental illness. Using the resources on this site, you can work in an informal staff development group.
- Organisations who invest in training in mental health and wellbeing for staff can have significant positive impacts on staff's mental health and wellbeing. If you are a principal, leadership team member or a professional development leader, you can find background professional information on education and mental health and wellbeing, or ideas for mental health and wellbeing activities for your staff (see the Professional domain).
- The whole staff view of the school and its staff is a significant factor in overall school and staff feelings. If you work in education but are not a teacher, use the Staff Matters pages, particularly the information within the Other Education Workers section of the Professional domain, to find general information on mental health and wellbeing.
