Staff Matters
The Staff Matters website provides information and professional development ideas for promoting staff mental health and wellbeing within the education context.
Use the Staff Mental Health and Wellbeing at Work model below to navigate the Staff Matters online resource.

The school in the community
TopThe three areas of the Staff Matters model; Interpersonal, Professional and Organisational support the Thriving Self through its connection to the School in the Community. The interrelationships of all aspects of the domains in the model confirm, inform and reinforce mental health and wellbeing directions in the school.
The Interpersonal
TopThe Interpersonal domain recognises the influence of our relationship with others in the workplace and our enjoyment and performance at work. This domain considers the power of the collegiate and social aspects of a workplace. Building our skills for interpersonal connections in the workplace lessens stress and positively influences mental health and wellbeing.
The Professional
TopThe Professional domain looks at the positive impact of success at work and its relationship to our overall mental health and wellbeing. This domain discusses the type of work undertaken in the educational workplace and how the nature of work and an individual’s approach to it has implications for how we build our own mental health and wellbeing.
The Thriving Self
TopThe Thriving Self is at the centre of the Staff Matters model and focuses on the importance of clarifying individual values and beliefs about mental health and wellbeing and how these values and beliefs interact at work. This may enable us to understand why we react the way we do and provide ideas on how to change or adapt our behavior.
The Organisational
TopThe Organisational domain has a role in formally encouraging and supporting health and wellbeing. This includes the more formal school processes of training and development, induction, performance management and renewal. When undertaken in a proactive and collaborative manner, using opportunities for social and emotional learning, resilience, help-seeking, participation, communication and professional development can actively contribute to mental health and wellbeing.
Staff Matters is a key focus module of the professional development program and the MindMatters school implementation and recognition process. Consult the Professional Development Calendar for specific dates in each state and territory.
