This website provides a leadership checklist designed 'to stimulate your thinking about what you are doing and what you might consider doing in the future. (It is a) catalyst for flexible action, rather than a straitjacket to make you conform to the image of the "good principal" ' (p. 1).

Sample items from the checklist include:

  • Ways of leading and managing. (Do leaders in our school emphasise power through people rather than power over people?)
  • Approaches to problem solving and decision making. (Do we solve problems collaboratively?)
  • Concerning learning. (Do leaders protect academic time and support teachers in keeping students engaged in learning?)
  • Structural conditions. (Do we use teams to plan and implement school improvement?)
  • Relating to the community. (Do we forge partnerships with community organisations, agencies and businesses to address the needs of children and families?)
