Activity - Language Checks: Personal
Create your own language or expression check to think about what others hear and what you hear yourself saying while you are at work. Ideas can come from the research and publications on positive thinking and attribution styles in Attributing the cause of events in this domain.
Either undertake this yourself or ask another trusted colleague to observe you in class/listen to you in breaks. The following table gives you an idea of how and what to record.
| Language expression/style - positives | How many times it occurred today |
| Use of always/never | |
| Use of must, should, have to | |
| Positive affirmations of others/children/students in the time frame | |
| Accepting an opposite point of view | |
Think about what the table reveals.
