Leadership Focus Module Reports

Mount Isa 24 August 2011

 Holidays over, it was back to work for Jane who was the facilitator for the Leadership workshop held at the RedEarth Boutique Hotel in Mount Isa. This focus module made specific links with the Principals Australia L5 Leadership framework. The focus module considered the importance of the leader’s own personal mental health and wellbeing, and how health promotion, prevention, early intervention, learning and leadership were closely related. 

 Educators from schools and community groups in the Mount Isa region attended the workshop with the following feedback:

  • ‘Very useful, helped to see what we are doing already is what is being taught through MindMatters.’
  • ‘Makes wonderful sense as a pastoral co-ordinator; some great philosophies for change.’
  • ‘Have been inspired and well informed. Can’t wait to sit and read the resources more thoroughly.’

Cairns 18 May 2011

Educators from four organisations in the Cairns region attended the Leadership Module at the Rydges Tradewinds. This module focused on personal leadership aspects and a system approach to enable mental promotion, prevention and early intervention. Feedback included:

  •  ‘The presenter brought wonderful positive energy that made me feel this is going to be ‘do-able’ in our school and build on what’s in place.’
  •  ‘A very well developed and useful program.’
  •  ‘Informative - met my needs.’

Brisbane 2 March 2011

The Novotel Brisbane was the venue for the Leadership Focus Module facilitated by State Project Officer, Jane Taylor. Organisations from the government, Catholic and independent sectors of education in Queensland were represented. This focus module made specific links with the Principals Australia L5 Leadership framework. The focus module considered the importance of the leader’s own personal mental health and wellbeing and how health promotion, prevention, early intervention, learning and leadership were closely related.

Feedback from the workshop included:

  • great facilitation brought out the collective wisdom of the group
  • excellent introduction lots of interaction and sharing very supportive atmosphere created
  • lots of good ideas to use in the school setting
  • very well delivered excellent content.

Gold Coast 16 November 2010

The lovely Lakelands Golf Club was the venue for the Leadership focus module facilitated by State Project Officer, Jane Taylor. Organisations from the government, Catholic and independent sectors were represented. This focus module made specific links with the Principals Australia ‘L5 Frame’ leadership framework. The focus module considered the importance of the leader’s own personal mental health and wellbeing and how health promotion, prevention, early intervention, learning and leadership were closely related. 

Outcomes chosen to work on included:

  • staff support
  • social and emotional learning for children
  • health and wellbeing whole school plan
  • students’ self-confidence; positive attitudes
  • teachers’ awareness of students’ emotional needs.

Yeppoon 8 September 2009

The beautiful Capricorn Resort was the venue for the leadership focus module facilitated by Jane Taylor, Queensland’s State Project Officer. Fourteen educators from six schools in the Fitzroy Central West Education Region attended the workshop. Leaders discussed how their role and actions influenced the use of the nine action areas of the MindMatters Implementation Model and how they are shared, measured and comunicated within the school.

Feedback:

  • ‘Informative and helpful in understanding the role of leadership.’
  • ‘The information was delivered in a very calm manner, safe and inspirational.’
  • ‘Gave time to plan for the future – great help especially as Jane was here to provide support.’
  • ‘This morning I was ready to seek help for beginning to lose my enthusiasm, drive and energy to do the job. Now I am inspired and energised again. Thanks Jane.’

Brisbane 11 May 2009

Jane Taylor facilitated the one-day Leadership focus module that brought educators from eight schools in the Greater Brisbane Education Region to the Riverside Reception Centre, New Farm.

This module was for school leaders and aspiring leaders. Leadership has emerged as a key factor in school success in addressing mental health and wellbeing from the MindMatters evaluations and this module makes specific links with Principal Australia’s L5 framework. Leaders discussed how their role and actions influenced the use of the nine action areas of the MindMatters Implementation Model and how these are shared, measured and communicated within the school.

Participant feedback included the following:

  • ‘Great - I look forward to encouraging more of our staff to engage with Jane in the MindMatters concept.’
  • ‘Very informative - looking forward to implementing aspects.’
  • ‘I was made feel very comfortable and encouraged to participate and share.’
