The Resilience Conference - a highlight in 2007
The organisation of the Resilience Conference was a result of a partnership between MindMatters, KidsMatter, Drug Education and Resilience, the Department of Education, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Community Resilience Promotion and Prevention project and the University of Tasmania.
The conference aimed to connect people with the MindMatters suite of resources and build connections between schools and their communities, while focusing on existing resilience-building best practice within schools and communities.
The program included keynote speakers. Concurrent sessions were varied and included research-based presentations and practical strategies along with sessions about student and parent perspectives. The speakers from the MindMatters national team, Jo Mason and Kanat Wano, along with Professor Bruce Johnson from the University of South Australia, stimulated conversation and thinking on building resilience in our young people, our communities and ourselves. This was supported by the concurrent sessions which showcased local work in all three areas.
The conference was well attended, with around 200 participants, and the feedback was extremely positive. We plan to create more opportunities to connect in the future.
