Tasmanian State Project Officer

a photo of Toni GrayToni Gray has over 25 years experience in working as an educator and leader in school and non-school based positions with the Department of Education in Tasmania.
Toni has a background in curriculum development, whole school planning and assessment and reporting.  She has delivered a wide range of curriculum and health and wellbeing professional development to school leaders, teachers, early career teachers and other health professionals.
Toni has a strong commitment improving the social, emotional and educational outcomes for all students through promoting whole school approaches to mental health and wellbeing.

In addition to working with MindMatters (0.6), Toni will also be working with KidsMatter Primary (0.4).   This is an Australian first and presents an exciting opportunity to work across both projects with all levels of schooling.

MindMatters in Tasmania

Secondary schools in all sectors have access to:

  • ongoing professional learning
  • statewide project officer support
  • The MindMatters website which provides comprehensive resource materials and links to other national initiatives.

MindMatters offers free professional learning

  1. Level 1 Introductory workshop provides and introduction to the resource kit (which is being progressively updated) and the concept of whole school approaches to mental health and wellbeing.
  2. Level 2 Planning workshop is available to school core teams to plan and develop a school action plan with a view to measuring progress in mental health and wellbeing.
  3. Focus modules which are targeted professional learning opportunities including, but not limited to: Staff Matters, Student Empowerment, Communities do Matter, Measuring our Progress, Transitions
  4. Youth Empowerment Process (YEP) supporting secondary schools in empowering young people to lead and take part in promoting mental health

 

In addition, on-site support and professional learning is available to schools/clusters of schools/organisations on request assistance from the Project Officer to:

  • plan a whole school strategy to address student and staff mental health and wellbeing
  • select and conduct audits or review relevant existing staff, student and parent data
  • embed MindMatters within the policies and recommended structures of all Tasmanian school sectors
  • make explicit connections between MindMatters and the Australian Curriculum and Tasmanian Health and wellbeing curriculum
  • link to National and Department priorities such as National Partnerships, Healthy@Work, the Agenda for Children and Young People
  • plan and deliver professional development based on targeted or specific aspects of the MindMatters resource.
