CommunityMatters
| CommunityMatters: Working with diversity for wellbeing addresses how schools, in partnership with their diverse communities, can approach mental health promotion in a holistic way. The resource aims to assist schools to enhance mental health protective factors and student social and emotional wellbeing. |
CommunityMatters challenges school communities to work together to make places that promote the wellbeing of all their students. It aims to help schools understand how they can promote the social and emotional wellbeing of all students by:
- exploring the relationships between community, culture and identity
- analysing the social and cultural issues that tend to marginalise particular groups of students
- presenting strategies for working in community partnerships
- suggesting actions that schools and school communities can take to promote the wellbeing of all students in an integrated way.
CommunityMatters' key statement is based on international resilience research:
To enhance mental health protective factors and student social and emotional wellbeing, schools need to build a positive environment that will create caring relationships, a culture of high but achievable expectations and ongoing opportunities for authentic participation and contribution for all students.
