Looking after
your friends

Adolescence can be a challenging time, so it’s important that students know how to talk with friends they’re worried about and get adult support – but how can you highlight this in the classroom?

Looking after your friends – Module for use with students

In this module designed specifically for use with students, the challenges of looking after friends are explored through facilitated classroom activities. Students consider some of the warning signs that a friend may be in trouble and understand the limitations of the help they can provide. Two videos, created for a student audience, are used within the activities to encourage young people to think about how they can look after friends.

During the activities, students learn how to have conversations with friends, how to be a good listener and how to follow up with support from trusted adults or mental health professionals, if needed. The module resources include a student handout and a teacher guide to provide structure and guidance for running the activities in the classroom.
